VICTORIA—For the first time ever Triathlon Canada will be centralizing the nation’s top paratriathletes for a weeklong training camp to fully prepare for the World Championships in Budapest Hungary.
Eight athletes including Pierre Ouelett (Ancienne-Lorette, Que.), Darren Smith (Victoria), Charles Moreau (Trois-Rivieres, Que.), Grant Darby (Hamilton), Lorene Hatelt (Brampton, Ont.), Kim Wedgerfiled (Calgary), Kimberly Fawcett (Orleans, Ont.), and Jody Barber (Smithers, B.C.) will be working with the paratriathlon coaching staff Carly Priebe and Vincent Gauthier in the days leading up to the World Championships.
The team will be participating in a series of running, biking and swimming training sessions in addition to having access to the critical resources needed to fully prepare to win.
There are six categories for physically-challenged athletes to compete in at the ITU World Championships each year. The distances will be ITU sprint distance. Ongoing efforts are being made to have paratriathlon included in the Paralympic Summer Games.
