Ever since the first triathlon event took place in Hawaii in 1978, Canadian athletes have been dominant in the sport. Canada has been the most dominant country in Olympic Distance triathlon, winning five of the 14 available gold medals in the Pan American, Commonwealth and Olympic Games dating back to 1999, when the first major Games were held - far more than any other country.
